TL;DR: A lifetime subscription to the Language Zen–Spanish Language Learning Program is on sale for £57.44 as of April 1, saving you 84% on list price.
Learning a new language as an adult is no easy feat. It's a little bit easier when you have a personal tutor, but who has the time or money to commit to that? That's what's so cool about Language Zen. Think of it as your own personal language tutor — but the cool tutor you want to be friends with and not the one your parents forced you to meet.
Language Zen is an app that adapts to your learning styles and plays to your strengths and weaknesses while also focusing on topics you're actually interested in. Here's how it works: when you start the program, it evaluates what you know and don't know in order to focus more heavily on the things you need to work on. So, whether you're a total beginner, know a few basic words and phrases, or just need to brush up your skills, this learning program works for you. Oh, and the more you use it, the smarter it gets. More about Cybersecurity, Mashable Shopping, Online Courses, Tech, and Work LifeOne of the features Facebook has always been incredibly sneaky about is the order of posts appearing in the News Feed. By default, it's algorithmic (it's called Top Stories), meaning Facebook decides the order in which you see posts. This is alright if you trust the company's machine learning algorithms, but just seeing posts in order in which they appear chronologically has a lot of benefits.
Facebook does offer an option to show the Most Recent stories in the News Feed — it's tucked away in the Shortcuts menu, possibly under See More — but the setting "eventually" returns to Top Stories. This odd behavior shows how important it is for Facebook to keep showing you stories in the order it chooses, but it's also incredibly annoying if you're set on seeing the most recent stories, as there's no permanent way to turn this feature on. (Notably, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg was recently grilled by the U.S. Congress about the way the company's algorithms work). Read more...

Like most document scanners, Stack uses your phone's camera to create a scan of a document, such as a receipt, bill, or a banking statement. However, the app also reads some of the key data from your document – such as the total amount on a bill, for example – and then organizes your scanned documents into folders.
These folders, called "Stacks," are labeled as various categories, such as receipts, bills, vehicle, house, IDs, etc. You can also mark a document as starred, which will put it into a separate Stack. Read more...

Taking into consideration road conditions and topography along with traffic and congestion, Google Maps will offer an eco-route with a lower carbon emission. Sometimes the most fuel-efficient way will be the fastest or comparable, so Google Maps will default to that option. But if the eco-friendly way is a bit slower, you'll be able to see how much more you'd be polluting to shave a few minutes off your journey.
Google Maps partnered with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory to help make the calculations with a new mapping model. It estimates carbon emissions for the typical vehicle in a region on different routes, taking into account things like steep hills or heavy traffic. The eco-routes will be on iOS and Android phones later this year starting in the U.S. Read more...

Why so soon? Climate change, constantly pushing our warming planet towards an inhospitable hellscape. But at least we'll get to look at pretty flowers while we die.
According to over 1,000 years of records previously compiled by Osaka Prefecture University professor Yasuyuki Aono, Kyoto's cherry blossoms had consistently flowered around April 10 to 17 for over a millennium. Unfortunately, this window has since moved forwardThe Washington Post reports that Japan's most famous flowers have been trending toward blooming earlier each spring, with scientists attributing the phenomenon to increasing global temperatures. And as technology advances, there’s even less for us humans to take care of when it comes to ensuring our floors stay spick-and-span.
Self-emptying robot vacuums take the convenience of the traditional robot vacuum to another level: they actually allow you to forego regular maintenance for months on end—without sacrificing sparkling clean floors free of dirt and debris.
Instead of emptying the dustbin manually, a self-emptying vacuum actually takes that job out of your hands, emptying itself into a larger dustbin that has the capacity to manage weeks of dirt without needing to be cleaned or dumped out on your end. Not only does this allow you to keep your floors clean, it means you can literally set it up and forget about it. Read more...

Apple's Independent Repair Provider program is expanding in a big way.
The program, which gives third-party repair providers access to genuine Apple parts, tools, repair manuals and diagnostics, was initially lunched in the U.S. in 2019, and expanded to Europe and Canada in 2020. This year, it will be available in more than 200 countries — "nearly" every country where Apple products are sold, Apple announced on Tuesday.
The repair providers that want to join the program can get free training from Apple, but they do have to commit to having an Apple-certified technician on duty (certification is also free). According to Apple, there are currently more than 1,500 Independent Repair Provider locations in the U.S., Canada and Europe. Read more...
