Something strange has finally arrived in the neighbourhood. On Monday Sony held a surprise screening of Ghostbusters: Afterlife at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, and judging by first reactions, the latest installment in the beloved Ghostbusters franchise does look good.
Set 30 years after Ghostbusters II, Ghostbusters: Afterlife follows single mother Callie (Carrie Coon) and her two children Phoebe (Mckenna Grace) and Trevor (Finn Wolfhard) after they move to a run-down farmhouse. Of course, there's something strange in their new neighborhood, and they soon find themselves swept up in a paranormal adventure — one that ties back to the original Ghostbusters themselves.
Afterlife has some big jumpsuits to fill, especially considering the original films still hold a special place in many nostalgic adults' hearts. The first reactions suggest the screening's audience seem to have left satisfied, calling Afterlife a fun film that invokes nostalgia but doesn't get bogged down by it.
