FREEBIE ALERT: You'll get a free refurbished Apple iPad (a $349 value) with the purchase of select Echelon fitness equipment and a one- or two-year Echelon membership through Jan. 31. Take your pick from four spin bikes, two treadmills, two rowing machines, or a pair of Echelon Reflect smart mirrors.
Peloton may have driven the at-home workout trend early on in the pandemic, but some new price hikes on its trademark bike and treadmill will probably dash a lot of casual fitness enthusiasts' dreams of being the next Cody Rigsby.
Fortunately, the market for connected fitness equipment is no longer as sparse as it was even two years ago. Some of our favorite affordable alternatives come from Echelon, which boasts a huge lineup of bikes, treadmills, rowers, and smart mirrors as well as robust in-app programming with live and on-demand classes.
Thinking about upgrading your home gym for 2022? Now through Jan. 31, you'll get a free Apple iPad with the purchase of select Echelon fitness equipment (starting at $749.99) and a one- or two-year subscription to the Echelon Fit app ($33.33/month or $29.16/month, respectively) as part of the company's New Year's deal. Choose between four spin bikes, two treadmills, two rowers, or a pair of Echelon Reflect smart mirrors. Shipping is free no matter which machine you pick.
Some fine print: The iPad in question is a refurbished, fifth-generation model from 2017 that comes with 32GB of storage. (Echelon says it's worth $349, but we saw the same configuration listed for about $200 at Amazon at the time of writing.) That's all fine and good if you're going with something like the Echelon GT+ Connect Bike or the Echelon Row — they don't have built-in tablets for streaming classes — but you may not squeeze as much value out of it with a fancy Echelon Stride-5s treadmill or one of the smart mirrors.
You may also need to upgrade to a newer version of iPadOS, since the Echelon Fit app requires iPadOS 12 or later. (Fifth-gen iPads shipped with iPadOS 11.) Apple says the latest version of its operating system for tablets, iPadOS 15, is compatible with iPads as old as 2014's iPad Air 2, so at least it'll be a while before this one gets bricked.
Either way, you can't beat free. Hit the link below to choose your machine and membership plan. You'll then get a prompt to add the free iPad to your cart right before you head to checkout.
