Amazon decided bigger is better for its latest Echo device.
The new Echo Show 15 was unveiled during an Amazon livestream on Tuesday. Launching later this year for $249.99, the new Echo device has a massive 15.6-inch screen with 1080p resolution. The idea is that the Echo Show 15 can act as a digital picture frame for background decor, a small TV you can watch while doing chores, or simply a household bulletin board that each member of the family can use to leave sticky notes for each other.
It can be oriented in either portrait or landscape mode, and Amazon designed it to either sit on flat surfaces or be mounted on walls. The new user interface includes the aforementioned sticky notes feature as well as calendar features, to-do lists, and food recipes, among other things. Something Amazon is calling "Visual ID" can even set the home screen to show different things based on who walks in front of the device's camera. If you don't want kids to see inappropriate things, the Echo Show 15 can become kid-friendly as they walk by.
Of course, the Echo Show 15 can remotely control other Amazon smart-home devices and play videos from compatible cameras in a picture-by-picture display. As for that TV functionality we mentioned earlier, apps like Prime Video (duh), Netflix, Hulu, and Sling will work on the Echo Show 15 if you need to watch something while working in the kitchen. And last but not least, the Echo Show 15 can merely display a montage of images if you don't feel like actively engaging it.
The Echo Show 15 is definitely the most attractive Echo Show yet, and should at the very least look decent on a kitchen counter or wall.
